The community of Scottdale is mourning the loss of Mark Hixson, who died Tuesday afternoon following a tragic motorcycle crash in East Huntingdon Township. The fatal collision occurred along Porter Avenue near Cedar Drive and remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to preliminary information released by the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, the crash happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026. Investigators say Mark Hixson was operating a motorcycle eastbound on Porter Avenue when traffic near the Cedar Drive intersection reportedly slowed or stopped. For reasons still being examined, the motorcycle allegedly rear-ended an SUV traveling in front of him.

Authorities stated the impact caused Hixson to be ejected from the motorcycle and thrown onto the roadway. Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
