With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we remember the life of 59-year-old William Dale Blackburn of Shelbyville, Indiana, who tragically lost his life in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Friday morning, October 30, 2026, in Decatur County, Indiana.
William’s life was cut short in a heartbreaking accident that has left his loved ones and community mourning an unexpected loss. Behind his name was a life that mattered, a person whose presence held meaning, and memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
According to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, emergency dispatchers received a report of a multiple-vehicle crash at approximately 7:04 a.m. in the 5000 block of North Old U.S. Highway 421.
Investigators determined that a 2012 Ford F-350 pulling a 20-foot flatbed trailer was traveling northbound when the trailer became detached from the truck for reasons that remain under investigation. The detached trailer came to rest in the southbound lane.
William was driving a 2015 Ford Escape southbound when his vehicle struck the detached trailer head-on. A Honda Civic traveling behind his vehicle subsequently struck the trailer following the initial collision.
Tragically, William Dale Blackburn was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that his next of kin have been notified. No other injuries were reported.
As investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating collision, authorities have stated that alcohol or drug use is not suspected to have contributed to the crash.
