In Loving Memory of Rene Jahziel Munoz-Zacapu, 33: Tacoma Man Tragically Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on SR 167

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we remember Rene Jahziel Munoz-Zacapu, 33, of Tacoma, Washington, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating three-vehicle collision on State Route 167 in Auburn early Friday morning, October 30, 2026. His unexpected passing has left family members, friends, loved ones, and all those who knew him mourning a heartbreaking loss. At just 33 years old, Rene’s life ended far too soon, leaving behind memories that will forever be cherished.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Rene died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. His death was officially ruled an accident. The Washington State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:39 a.m. on southbound SR 167, just north of State Route 18 in Auburn. According to preliminary information from Washington State Patrol investigators, Rene was driving a 2007 Scion when he lost control of the vehicle, struck the concrete barrier on the left side of the roadway, and came to a stop in the second lane from the left.

Investigators believe Rene subsequently exited his vehicle. Tragically, a southbound Tesla then struck both the disabled Scion and Rene. Following that collision, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck also struck him. Despite the circumstances, Rene sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The devastating collision resulted in a lengthy roadway closure, with the affected section of SR 167 remaining blocked for approximately five hours and sixteen minutes as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene.

Beyond the accident investigation, this tragedy represents the loss of a life that held meaning, promise, and value. Rene was only 33 years old, an age when so many experiences and opportunities still lie ahead.
