IN LOVING MEMORY OF DAMON ADAMS
The Prestonsburg community is mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Damon Adams, 22, who drowned Friday evening at Dewey Lake in Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.
According to officials, emergency responders were called at approximately 7:22 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing Adams swimming in the lake when he suddenly went underwater and failed to resurface. The report prompted an immediate and coordinated emergency response as crews rushed to the scene in an effort to locate him.
A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched involving multiple agencies, including the Prestonsburg Fire Department, Prestonsburg Police Department, Floyd County Rescue Squad, Floyd County Emergency Management, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. During the search efforts, authorities temporarily closed Lake Road (Route 302) between the old swimming pool area and Arrowhead Point to allow emergency personnel safe and unobstructed access to the water.
Despite extensive rescue efforts and a rapid response from multiple agencies, Adams was located at approximately 8:48 p.m. in the main channel of Dewey Lake. He was recovered from the bottom of the lake and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
News of his passing has left family, friends, and the Prestonsburg community in deep sorrow. Loved ones are now grappling with the sudden loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon in a heartbreaking and unexpected incident. Those who knew Damon are remembering him with sadness, reflecting on shared moments, and struggling to come to terms with the shock of his passing.
