In Loving Memory of Rebecca Case: Beloved Mother of Nine Tragically Killed in Fiery Highway 385 Crash

With profound sadness and broken hearts, we remember Rebecca Case, a beloved mother of nine whose life was tragically taken in a devastating multi-vehicle collision on Highway 385 in Collierville, Tennessee. Her sudden and heartbreaking passing has left her family, friends, loved ones, and community mourning an unimaginable loss. A mother of nine, Rebecca leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

The fatal crash occurred Wednesday evening, October 28, 2026, around 5:15 p.m., near the Progress Road overpass in an active construction zone. According to the Collierville Police Department, 37-year-old Derek Kyle Johnson was traveling along Highway 385 when his vehicle slammed into the rear of Rebecca’s Honda CR-V, which was stopped in traffic. The tremendous impact propelled her SUV forward, setting off a chain-reaction collision involving three additional vehicles.

When emergency responders arrived, Rebecca’s Honda CR-V was completely engulfed in flames, with her trapped inside. Despite the emergency response, she tragically sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified her as Rebecca Case.

Investigators reported that Johnson showed signs of possible intoxication, including bloodshot, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol. Officers also discovered several alcoholic beverages inside his vehicle. Following the investigation, Johnson was arrested and arraigned on charges including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, an open-container violation, and a seat belt violation. He is being held on $250,000 bail. These remain allegations, and the charges will be addressed through the legal process.

Court records also revealed that Johnson was facing separate DWI and suspended-license charges in Missouri stemming from an incident in September, as well as other outstanding matters in Tennessee.

Beyond the investigation and legal proceedings, the greatest tragedy is the life that was lost and the nine children who must now face life without their mother. No words can adequately express the pain of losing a parent so suddenly. Rebecca’s passing leaves an irreplaceable emptiness, and her memory will forever be connected to the love she shared with her family.

During this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to Rebecca’s nine children, relatives, friends, and everyone grieving this devastating loss. May they find strength in one another and comfort in the beautiful memories they will carry forever.

Rest peacefully, Rebecca Case. Your life mattered, your love will never be forgotten, and your memory will live on forever. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
