In Loving Memory of Andrew Saris: Beloved Coach, Mentor, and Friend Gone Too Soon at 39
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we remember the life of Andrew Saris, whose unexpected passing has left family, friends, athletes, and the entire Ohio sports community mourning the loss of a remarkable man taken far too soon.
Andrew passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office. He was just 39 years old.
For those who knew Andrew, whether on the field, the track, or through simple conversation, one thing was always clear — he carried a rare authenticity. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, understood, and connected, often leaving others feeling like they had known him for years, even if they had only just met.
A proud graduate of Smithville High School, Andrew was a standout athlete and a member of the school’s 2002 state runner-up football team. Those who watched him play knew his talent, but those who knew him personally understood his character was even greater than his athletic ability.
Andrew later poured that same passion into coaching, dedicating himself to shaping young athletes both on the track and on the football field. As the track coach at Madison High School, he became known for his knowledge, his honesty, and his deep love for the sport.
To many, he was more than a coach — he was a mentor, a teacher, and someone who always spoke with sincerity. His conversations were candid, easy, and full of wisdom. Whether breaking down the intensity of the 300-meter hurdles or sharing stories about football and life, Andrew left a lasting impression.
In 2022, he took on the role of head football coach at Lexington High School, continuing his commitment to young athletes and his passion for competition. His leadership, dedication, and understanding of the game earned him respect from players, colleagues, and the broader community alike.
Those closest to him knew Andrew as humble. He rarely spoke about his own accomplishments, preferring instead to focus on the team, the athletes, and the people around him.
His passing is a painful reminder of how quickly life can change. At 39, Andrew still had so much more life to live, so many more athletes to inspire, and so many more conversations to have.
But though his journey ended far too soon, the impact he made will not be forgotten.
His legacy lives on in every athlete he coached, every lesson he taught, every life he encouraged, and every person lucky enough to know him.
To his family, including his father Chuck, his friends, former players, and the entire community mourning this loss, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers.
Rest in peace, Andrew Saris. Your voice, your wisdom, and your legacy will forever echo through the fields, tracks, and hearts you touched. 🕊️💔🏈
