A shooting in Carrollton, Texas, just north of Dallas, on May 5 has left at least two people dead and three others hospitalized, according to local authorities.

Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo said during a press briefing that officers were dispatched to the Ktowne Plaza around 11 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When police arrived, they discovered multiple scenes connected to the incident in and around the shopping center, which is now the focus of an active investigation.

Authorities identified the suspect as 69-year-old Sung Ho Han. Police said he was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit that ended near an H Mart located within the same plaza. Officials confirmed that Han was arrested shortly after the incident unfolded.

At this stage, investigators say the motive has not been clearly established. However, Chief Arredondo noted that early information suggests the individuals involved were known to one another and had met for what appeared to be a business-related interaction.

“We don’t know exactly what the meeting was about, but we understand it to be a business relation,” Arredondo stated, adding that there is no indication the shooting was random or motivated by bias. Authorities have also ruled out the possibility of a hate crime at this time.

Emergency responders transported three injured victims to nearby hospitals, while two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.

Investigators continue to process evidence and interview witnesses as they work to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the shooting. The area surrounding Ktowne Plaza remains an active crime scene as law enforcement examines multiple locations tied to the incident.

Carrollton, located about 20 miles north of Dallas, is known for its significant Korean-American community and commercial centers, including the Ktowne Plaza area where the shooting occurred.
