Audrey Card Death, Obituary: With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the Covelo community mourns the tragic loss of Audrey Card, 38, whose life was taken far too soon in a devastating act of violence on the morning of April 19, 2026. Her passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grappling with grief, shock, and an overwhelming sense of loss.
According to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 6:13 a.m. on a dirt road near Charlie Hurt Highway. In the moments that followed, Audrey was urgently transported by a citizen seeking help, first toward the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department and later to a nearby residence on South Airport Road when emergency personnel could not immediately be located.
When deputies and Round Valley Tribal Police Officers arrived, they found Audrey unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers and first responders acted swiftly, performing CPR and continuing life-saving measures alongside emergency medical personnel. Despite their efforts, Audrey Card was tragically pronounced deceased at approximately 6:55 a.m.
Her passing marks the heartbreaking end of a life that held deep meaning to those who knew her. Beyond the details of the incident, Audrey is remembered as a cherished member of her community—someone whose presence, relationships, and shared moments will not be forgotten.
