78-Year-Old Woman Dead After Multi-Vehicle Crash on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga

A tragic multi-vehicle collision on Saturday night has claimed the life of a 78-year-old woman, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:15 p.m. to the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 near Mississauga Road following multiple calls reporting a three-vehicle crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, where they found significant damage involving several vehicles.

Police said the victim, a 78-year-old woman from North York, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved. She was transported to a trauma centre, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the same vehicle was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that no other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

The incident led to temporary road closures while investigators conducted an on-scene examination to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Those closures have since been lifted, and traffic flow was fully restored by Sunday morning.

The OPP continues to investigate the cause of the collision and is appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time is urged to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

The fatal crash underscores the ongoing risks on one of Ontario’s busiest highways and serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety for all motorists and passengers.
