Harrison Kolodziej Accident Cheltenham, VIC – Cheltenham Community Rallies Around Teen After Life-Changing Accident

The Cheltenham, Victoria community is coming together to support 17-year-old Harrison, a Year 11 student at St Bede’s Mentone, after a tragic accident left him with devastating life-changing injuries.

What was meant to be a fun night out with school friends turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when Harrison suffered a fractured skull, broken sternum, and severe spinal cord injuries that have left him paralysed from the chest down.

Harrison is widely known by friends, teachers, teammates, and family as a kind-hearted, energetic young man with a deep passion for life. His former teacher, Eva, who taught him for two years and has known his family for over 15 years, described him as someone who always brought positivity, determination, and compassion to those around him.

Whether at school, working at the local pizza shop, spending time with friends, or helping family members, Harrison was always active and full of life. Basketball, however, remained one of his greatest passions. As a player for both the Parkdale Pacers and Coastal Royals, the sport became more than just a hobby — it was a major part of his identity and future dreams.

Now, instead of focusing on school, sport, and everyday teenage life, Harrison faces an incredibly difficult road ahead filled with intensive rehabilitation, ongoing medical treatment, mobility equipment, and significant home modifications as he adjusts to a completely new reality.

Despite the heartbreak, Harrison’s family continues to remain strong and hopeful while navigating the emotional and financial challenges that come with such a devastating injury. In response, loved ones and members of the wider community have established a trust fund to help support Harrison’s ongoing care and provide him with every possible opportunity for independence and recovery.

Friends, classmates, teammates, and supporters throughout Cheltenham and beyond are now rallying around Harrison and his family with donations, prayers, and messages of encouragement during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Those closest to Harrison remain hopeful that with continued support, determination, and love, he will continue to inspire everyone around him through his strength and resilience.
