In Loving Memory of 6-Year-Old Cole Adrian and 35-Year-Old Nicholas Schafer

With profound sadness, we remember 6-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, both of McPherson, Kansas, who tragically lost their lives in the devastating incident at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita on October 17, 2026.

According to the Wichita Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. when a Chevrolet pickup truck drove onto a soccer field, striking several children and adults. What should have been a joyful afternoon of soccer and family activities quickly became a heartbreaking tragedy.

Authorities identified the driver as 34-year-old Rachel Taylor, who was released following interviews and consultation with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results and a mechanical examination of the vehicle. As of the latest update provided, no charges had been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Cole was only six years old, with a lifetime of possibilities ahead of him. No family should ever have to endure the devastating pain of losing a child so young. His memory will forever remain precious to those who loved him.

Nicholas, 35, also leaves behind loved ones facing the unimaginable pain of his sudden death. Although the two victims were not related, their families now share an overwhelming loss.

Ten additional people, including five children and five adults, were injured and transported to hospitals. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.
