Fatal Car Accident Perth Today: 18-Year-Old Driver Dies After Vehicle Rollover; Investigation Underway
A tragic crash on Mitchell Freeway has claimed the life of an 18-year-old man, following a serious rollover that prompted a major emergency response and disrupted traffic across the Perth metropolitan area.
According to Western Australia Police Force, the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. when a white Nissan Patrol station wagon was traveling northbound between Southport Street and Powis Street. Investigators say the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Powis Street exit, causing it to roll.
The young driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders transported him to Royal Perth Hospital for urgent medical treatment, but he later died from his injuries.
Specialist officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section have attended the scene and are working to determine the exact cause of the collision. Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the crash or have dashcam footage from the area to come forward and assist the investigation through Crime Stoppers.
The crash resulted in the closure of northbound lanes, causing significant traffic congestion and delays during the morning commute. Main Roads Western Australia advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, as congestion extended back toward Hay Street.
